Paypal Does not Protect the Australian Consumer Online
WHY IT IS SAFER TO USE YOU CREDIT CARD ONLINE THAN PAYPAL!!!
For years we believed the hype from Paypal that is was a safer way to purchase online but recently we became the victim of an online rip-off and Paypal offered no help.
We made every effort to try to resolve the problem directly with the seller but they were uncooperative. When we finally threatened to make a complaint to Paypal the seller simply said Paypal
would not give a refund - they were correct.
As soon as I made the complaint the seller immediately escalated it so that Paypal would make a ruling without further investigation.
This was done within about ten minutes with no communication to me.
I believe this ruling was made in accordance to a narrow interpretation of the rules by some help desk operator with a thin grasp on English following point form guidelines. I don’t believe
they read or comprehended the complaint.
Basically I was saying that the sellers website was misleading and at first only wanted seller to fix the problem but when they responded in a hostile and unhelpful way I decided to requested a full
refund.
The Paypal ruling was basically that there is no refund on downloadable products once you have received it - simple as that.
After the ruling against the complaint by Paypal International I made a complaint to Paypal Australia (this is the second option on my Paypal Account page) and just got an answer back from
them. They only protect Ebay purchases so my complaint does not qualify.
SO THERE YOU HAVE IT - YOU ARE ONLY PROTECTED FOR EBAY PURCHASES
FOR YEARS PAYPAL HAVE PROMOTED THEMSELVES AS THE SAFE WAY TO PURCHASE ONLINE
THIS IS A LIE - DON’T USE PAYPAL FOR ONLINE SHOPPING
Had I used my credit card it would have been easy to get a refund.
My head is still spinning in amazement at what happened and the attitude of the seller and paypal.
